Next year, Lamborghini will officially enter the endurance hypercar category with the unveiling of the SC63. The car will represent the brand in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA North American competition. The name SC refers to the Squadra Corse, Lamborghini’s racing arm, and the number 63 recalls the year the brand was founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini.<\/p>\n
The SC63 adopts the LMDh technical route, which means that it uses a chassis supplied by a supplier approved by the International Federation, in collaboration with the French company Ligier in this case. The regulations also require the use of a common hybrid system on the rear axle, consisting of an additional 67hp Bosch electric motor, a WAE battery located next to the driver and a 7-speed Xtrac gearbox. The choice of combustion engine is free, and the SC63 will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8, producing around 700bhp.<\/p>\n
The car is distinguished by its regulation weight of 1,030 kg and its design, with a black-striped Mantis livery sponsored by Geneva watchmaker Roger Dubuis.<\/p>\n
The team responsible for running the SC63 will be Iron Lynx, an Italian team based in Cesena. Four of the six drivers have already been confirmed, including Romain Grosjean, a famous Formula 1 driver, and Daniil Kvyat, another former F1 driver. The other names of the drivers and the mix between the two championships are not yet known.<\/p>\n
Testing of the SC63 will begin this summer, and the car could take its first laps in France.<\/p>\n
