Alfa-Roméo Stelvio, an SUV loaded with emotions!
The arrival of Stelvio on the market was a long awaited event by the entire Alfa Romeo community. It is, in fact, the first SUV to be produced by the brand in Biscione. But something new is always a little apprehensive. Indeed, is this new model faithful to the tradition of the Milanese firm? Can we find the brand's DNA so dear to its fans? Let's discover this new model.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio: an SUV yes, but with heart
In 2003, Alfa-Romeo presented at the Geneva Motor Show a concept car called Kamal, which foreshadowed the arrival of a raised model in the range. More than 15 years later, the Italian brand officially released the Stelvio. It is therefore an understatement to say that this model is overdue!
Alfa Romeo STELVIO : A STYLED AND SPORTSYLE SUV
Gasoline or diesel, Super, Sprint, Ti and Veloce finishes
A newborn in the Alfa-Romeo range
It shares the same platform as the Giulia sedan, voted "most beautiful car of the year" in 2016. We thus find a similar front fascia with its characteristic large grille. With its 4.69 m long, it has a good habitability. In the rear, both occupants have room for their legs and the trunk volume (525 L) is relatively large.
In diesel, the model is available in a 2.2 L 160 hp, 2.2 L 190 hp and 2.2 L 210 hp version. As for petrol engines, it is available in two versions: 2.0 L 200 hp and 2.0 L 280 hp. In order to adapt to the different needs of its customers, the Italian brand offers a wide range of finishes, each with a set of standard equipment: Business, Super, Executive, Sport Edition, Lusso and Turismo.
The brand also offers a sport version, stamped with the famous four-leaf clover, the Quadrifoglio verde. With the fastest lap time on the Nürburgring, this is the sportiest model on the market today. Equipped with a 510 horsepower twin-turbo V6, this engine is directly derived from that of the Ferrari 488 GTB.
The Alfa-Romeo Stelvio, a catalyst for emotions
With this new model, the Milanese brand has set itself the goal of manufacturing the most dynamic SUV in the sector. Its name is borrowed from the highest pass in the Italian Alps, known for its vertiginous route made up of 75 switchbacks!
As usual, the Biscione brand does not disappoint when it comes to driving. Lighter than its competitors (1,660 kg compared to 1,800 kg for the Audi Q5 or the BMW X3), it is agile on the roads. True to the brand's sporting tradition, it is a rear-wheel drive model. On the 210 hp diesel, 200 hp and 280 hp petrol versions, it benefits from a Q4 transmission which transfers up to 50% of traction to the front wheels in the event of loss of grip. Although raised compared to the Giulia sedan, its ground clearance remains relatively low for an SUV, which gives it better road qualities.
The least we can say is that his performances are there. The 280 hp 4-cylinder petrol model goes from 0 to 100 km / h in just 5.7 seconds. Performance, design, sound, quality, innovation… nothing to complain about, Alfa's DNA is indeed present!
