New Alfa Romeo Tonale 2026: a subtle but significant facelift
Three years after its launch, the Alfa Romeo Tonale is getting a makeover. Behind what appears to be a subtle evolution lies a more thorough redesign, affecting both the exterior styling and the mechanical options and trim levels. For 2026, the Italian brand’s compact SUV further asserts its personality, without abandoning its sporty elegance or design heritage.
A redesigned front end for added character
The main aesthetic change is found at the front of the Tonale. The license plate, previously off-centre, is now positioned in the centre of the bumper, within a newly designed and more assertive front section. The grille is now concave, flanked by side air intakes inspired by the Giulia GTA, while the redesigned bumper adds visual presence. The result is a more compact and visually wider silhouette, further accentuated by a 10 mm increase in track width.
The Biscione logo now features a black and white finish, as seen on the Junior. New 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels complete the update. At the rear, however, the design remains unchanged.
An updated engine line-up that meets regulations
The 2026 Tonale now complies with the Euro 6e-bis standard. Three powertrains are available:
-
1.6 Diesel (130 hp): carried over unchanged, still paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
-
1.5 Hybrid (mild hybrid, 175 hp): gains 15 hp over the previous version. This turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine uses 48V mild-hybrid technology.
-
1.3 Plug-In Hybrid (270 hp): slightly downrated (–10 hp), this plug-in hybrid version remains the most powerful in the range. It offers an electric range of around 60 km (WLTP cycle) and comes standard with Q4 all-wheel drive.
The entire line-up is available with automatic transmission only.
An interior enhanced with new finishes
The cabin retains its familiar setup: 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch central touchscreen and driver-oriented controls. New features include a rotary gear selector on all versions and the addition of extended ambient lighting.
Alfa Romeo is also enhancing its upholstery offerings, notably with a new Cannelloni red leather finish. The special edition Sport Speciale features an exclusive interior in black and white Alcantara, available only in limited numbers.
A broader trim line-up
The 2026 Tonale is now available in five trim levels:
-
Tonale (entry-level trim): parking sensors, reversing camera, 10.25” touchscreen, digital dashboard, 17” alloy wheels.
-
Sprint: built-in navigation, 18” wheels, aluminium pedals, ambient lighting, tinted rear windows.
-
Ti: heated, ventilated and electric front seats, heated steering wheel, leather upholstery (red or black), steering wheel-mounted paddles.
-
Veloce: DSV adaptive suspension, Matrix LED headlights, 19” wheels, red brake calipers, twin exhaust outlets.
-
Sport Speciale: limited edition with exclusive styling, silver-grey exterior accents, Alcantara seats, bespoke interior ambiance.
A discreet yet effective update
With this 2026 refresh, the Alfa Romeo Tonale strengthens its position in the premium compact SUV segment. While not a revolution, the Italian brand has successfully sharpened the lines, modernised the technical offering, and enhanced the onboard experience. Enough to continue appealing to fans of refined sportiness in the face of German rivals.
