Porsche 718, the curves call out to you
Since 2016, Porsche has decided to make a change for two of its models: the Cayman and the Boxster. Indeed, the German premium automobile brand has decided to honour the legendary Porsche 718 which won many races in the 1950s and 1960s; by renaming its cars the Porsche 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster!
The Porsche 718: smaller, lighter, but still so attractive
The new Porsche 718s have inherited not only the name of their ancestor but also their engine and efficiency. Indeed, these little wonders which were originally equipped with a 3-litre 6-cylinder engine and around 260 horsepower, have undergone a very muscular overhaul! It is now a flat 4-cylinder engine of only 2 litres for a power of 300 horsepower, which sets the model apart from the vintage 718.
In its most muscular version, the GTS, the 4 cylinder is even pushed to 365hp to go from 0 to 100km/h in an impressive 4.1 seconds: breathtaking!
POrsche 718: performance and efficiency
In Boxster or Cayman version, 3 engines and a multitude of equipment combinations
porsche 718 Cayman: even stiffer, even more comfortable
The latest generation of Porsche Cayman has been in production since 2016. Once is not customary at Porsche, its little car is specially equipped with a completely new design for the occasion. The Porsche 718 Cayman thus sports a refreshed look but is still faithful to the spirit of the brand. The main changes relate largely to the finishes, curves and materials used; which gives this sports car an even more enticing look.
The 718 Cayman is moreover equipped accordingly to face the road and brings both dynamism and performance. Including 4 driving modes: normal, individual and two sport modes; the Cayman is prepared to react and adapt to any playing field.
The new 2-litre, 300-horsepower, 4-cylinder on-board engine performs well and offers impressive handling flexibility. Indeed, starting at 2000 rpm, the difference is striking compared to the previous model. Enjoyment and driving sensations are once again on the menu!
Once seated inside the Porsche Cayman, we realize that the design has, for the most part, been preserved. Although the equipment is rather neutral, the 718 Cayman still has the advantage of offering a classy interior, very beautiful finishes, an ergonomic dashboard incorporating the latest technologies and offering simplified access to the main functions (ABS, deployment of the rear spoiler, etc.).
Porsche 718 Boxster: efficiency in the open air
The Porsche 718 Boxster is a jewel combining sportiness, elegance and performance, all with the wind in your hair. This sports car is indeed back, in an improved version and it must be said that everyone takes notice. In terms of innovation, Porsche has gone all out to sublimate and bring a touch of freshness to this reincarnation of the legendary 718 in a convertible version.
On the performance side, this Porsche Boxster displays the same characteristics as the Cayman with which it shares an engine and goes from 0 to 100 km/hour in 5.1 seconds. She gains 0.2 seconds in a PDK box. The four-cylinder 300-horsepower central engine can be heard roaring even more from the wheel of the convertible; which is not unpleasant! The small rear spoiler has the advantage of showing the tip of its nose from a certain speed, to gain aerodynamics. You should know that it is also possible to deploy it manually from the main console.
In terms of handling, the Porsche can be driven deftly. Even the most novice in the field can easily drive it thanks to excellent quality precise steering, brakes and suspensions. Like the Cayman, the Boxster has an exclusive feature: the PSM (Porsche Stability Management) system, which safely stabilizes cars in risky driving situations.
Inside the vehicle, expect to find an aesthetic and understated dashboard, clean finishes, a central tachometer and a rising console that allows the driver to find his bearings very quickly and use all the functions of the car intuitively.
