Alfa Romeo Tonale: a small sporty SUV soon available
In the summer of 2022, the Alfa Romeo Tonale will enter the sports SUV arena. An interesting challenge that the Biscione brand intends to take up: the manufacturer’s compact premium SUV has the weapons to win in this segment in turn.
Design and performance that live up to expectations
After a first presentation in 2019 at the Geneva Motor Show and which caused a stir, the Alfa Romeo Tonale will be marketed in France from June 22, 2022. In terms of design, the Tonal model impresses with its length of 4.52 m and its wheelbase of 2.63 m. Taking its name from a famous Alpine pass, the Tonale opts for conventional door handles, “telephone” rims and an Alfa grille in the shape of the brand’s characteristic crest. In the passenger compartment, comfort and ergonomics are on the agenda, notably with a digital cockpit with two screens. Sportiness is also present with round air vents and enveloping bucket seats.
In terms of engines, the SUV will have, on the French market, a 1.6 turbo-diesel engine with a power of 130 horsepower. But faced with the competition engaged in all-out hybridization, the Tonale offers an offer available in two hybrid versions, both equipped with the same thermal block. It is a 1.5 liter turbo developing 130 or 160 hp powered by a 48 volt generator for starting and acceleration. At the top of the range, Alfa Romeo will offer the Tonale Plug-in Hybrid at the end of the year, a plug-in hybrid version, which will combine 275 horsepower and have all-wheel drive.
In the end, the newborn of the Italian manufacturer is a firm response to its rivals and illustrates the process of electrification of its range in which Alfa Romeo is committed without denying its values.
