Audi RS 5: Audi Sport’s high-performance hybrid makes its Formula 1 debut in Miami
Audi continues the development of its new generation of electrified models by integrating the Audi RS 5 into the official Formula 1 hot laps programme. Presented during the 2026 Miami Grand Prix, Audi Sport’s new high-performance saloon now serves as the vehicle tasked with taking guests around the circuit alongside professional drivers. This launch marks an important milestone for the brand, which now combines plug-in hybrid performance, motorsport-derived technologies and its growing commitment to Formula 1.
A plug-in hybrid powertrain designed for performance
The new Audi RS 5 introduces a plug-in hybrid powertrain developed by Audi Sport. It combines a 510 hp 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 with a 130 kW electric motor, delivering a combined output of 639 hp and particularly high torque. This configuration enables the RS 5 to reach speeds of up to 285 km/h while delivering especially responsive acceleration.
The model also introduces a major evolution of the quattro drivetrain with the Dynamic Torque Control system. This electromechanical torque vectoring technology precisely distributes power between the wheels in order to optimise traction, agility and cornering precision. On track as well as on the road, the Audi RS 5 therefore delivers a more dynamic and more stable driving experience while maintaining an excellent level of versatility.
Used without technical modifications as part of the Formula 1 hot laps programme, the RS 5 demonstrates Audi’s ability to combine electrification and sportiness. The model also illustrates the brand’s technological evolution in a context where Formula 1 itself is adopting increasingly efficient hybrid powertrains.
Sporty design and motorsport-inspired technologies
The Audi RS 5 features a specific presentation directly inspired by the world of motorsport. The examples used in Miami notably stand out thanks to a Titanium finish combined with Lava Red accents on the Audi rings and wheel centre caps, referencing the future Audi R26 Formula 1 single-seater.
The exterior design retains the athletic proportions characteristic of RS models, with an assertive silhouette, carefully developed aerodynamic elements and black wheels reinforcing its sporting character. Inside, Audi focuses on the driving experience with a technological environment designed for both performance and everyday comfort.
The integration of the latest Audi Sport innovations also delivers an immersive track experience. Two experienced drivers, Dindo Capello and Markus Winkelhock, conduct the dynamic demonstrations during Grand Prix weekends, showcasing the model’s capabilities in real-world sporting driving conditions. With this new plug-in hybrid RS 5, Audi confirms its ambition to evolve sportiness towards a new generation of electrified performance.
