New Audi RS 5: high-performance plug-in hybrid enters the RS era
Audi Sport opens a new chapter in the history of its performance models with the New Audi RS 5, the first high-performance plug-in hybrid RS model. Designed to combine extreme dynamism, efficiency and everyday versatility, it embodies a new interpretation of the RS DNA: a sports car capable of delivering thrilling sensations on the road as well as on the track, while allowing 100% electric driving for urban journeys.
An all-new hybrid powertrain and top-level performance
At the heart of this RS 5, Audi combines an optimised 2.9 TFSI twin-turbo V6 engine with a high-performance electric motor. The combustion engine delivers 375 kW (510 hp) and 600 Nm of torque, while the electric motor provides 130 kW (177 hp) and 460 Nm. Combined output reaches 470 kW (639 hp) with a total torque of 825 Nm, positioning the RS 5 among the most powerful models in its category. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is announced at 3.6 seconds, with a top speed that can reach 285 km/h as an option.
This plug-in hybrid technology also enables fully electric driving for daily journeys, enhancing the model’s versatility. The 25.9 kWh gross battery recharges in alternating current at up to 11 kW, for a full charge in approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. The hybrid system intelligently manages energy to maintain a sufficient charge level to guarantee performance, particularly in the most dynamic driving modes.
The New Audi RS 5 also introduces a major evolution of the quattro drivetrain with Dynamic Torque Control. This system features an innovative electromechanical torque vectoring solution on a production model, capable of distributing torque between the rear wheels within milliseconds. Combined with a new all-wheel-drive system and a preloaded centre differential, it delivers remarkable agility, optimal traction and great stability in all driving situations.
The chassis has been entirely developed to meet the demands of this new RS generation: specific sport suspension with dual-valve dampers, RS-tuned steering, large wheels up to 21 inches and high-performance steel or ceramic brakes. The overall package ensures a precise balance between everyday comfort and efficiency on winding roads or on the track.
A bold RS design and a driver-focused technological interior
The New Audi RS 5 features a resolutely sporty design. Wider than the standard Audi A5, with flared wheel arches and broader tracks, it stands out with a three-dimensional Singleframe grille, optimised air intakes and a pronounced rear diffuser integrating the RS sport exhaust system. Matrix LED headlights and a specific light signature further enhance its visual identity.
Inside, the atmosphere is both sporty and technological. The cockpit revolves around a panoramic display including the 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit and the 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen, complemented by a passenger display. Specific RS displays allow real-time monitoring of numerous performance data: G-forces, lap times, energy flow or component temperatures. RS sport seats, leather upholstery with contrast stitching and dedicated decorative inserts create a driver-oriented environment, without compromising comfort on long journeys.
