Alfa Romeo Edizione Luna Rossa: the world of the America’s Cup comes to the Junior and Tonale
Alfa Romeo unveils Edizione Luna Rossa, a new special series available on the Junior, Tonale, Giulia and Stelvio. Unveiled in the Gulf of Naples during the second preliminary regatta of the 2027 America’s Cup, it celebrates the partnership between the Italian brand and the Luna Rossa team by bringing several design cues directly inspired by the world of sailing competition to the road. While the Giulia and Stelvio offer a particularly exclusive interpretation, the Junior and Tonale take centre stage in this new range.
Junior and Tonale adopt the colours of Luna Rossa
Junior and Tonale Edizione Luna Rossa share a distinctive visual identity. A new grey colour, inspired by the equipment worn by the Luna Rossa crew, can be combined with the characteristic red stripe running along the sides. White and black body colours are also available. The Alfa Romeo logo turns red for the occasion, while several exterior elements feature a Glossy Black finish.
The two SUVs are distinguished in particular by their wheels: 18-inch “Fori” wheels on the Junior and 20-inch wheels on the Tonale.
The Luna Rossa theme also continues inside. Both models notably introduce upholstery using 3D Knit technology, employed for the first time within the Stellantis group. This process allows the covering to be produced from a continuous thread and a single component, while creating a three-dimensional pattern inspired by the world of activewear.
The Junior also features specific graphics on the dashboard and centre console, with a design evoking the structure of sails. On the Tonale, this inspiration is reflected in new ambient lighting with a geometric pattern. Sports pedals and aluminium door sills complete the presentation.
Hybrid and electric powertrains for Junior and Tonale
The Luna Rossa series is not limited to a single powertrain. The Junior Edizione Luna Rossa is available as both a hybrid and a 100% electric model. The hybrid version combines a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a six-speed eDCT automatic gearbox, delivering 145 hp. It can be specified with either front-wheel drive or Q4 all-wheel drive. The electric Junior develops 156 hp (115 kW) and features a 54 kWh battery.
Tonale Edizione Luna Rossa, meanwhile, retains the full range of powertrains available in the model line-up. The Hybrid version develops 175 hp from a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The Diesel version develops 130 hp, while the Plug-In Hybrid Q4 combines a 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a combined output of 270 hp with all-wheel drive.
This diversity allows the special series to retain the different usage possibilities offered by the Junior and Tonale, while giving them a shared identity directly inspired by the partnership with Luna Rossa.
Comprehensive equipment and distinctive details
The Junior and Tonale Edizione Luna Rossa also benefit from a level of equipment reflecting their position at the top of their respective ranges. Both feature the Alfa Connect system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, integrated navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The digital instrument cluster takes the form of a 10.25-inch “Cannocchiale” display on the Junior and a 12.3-inch display on the Tonale.
Automatic climate control, keyless entry and start, heated seats, electrically folding exterior mirrors and the Alfa DNA selector are also among the available features. The Tonale additionally features dual-zone climate control and the Air Quality System.
Driver assistance systems include intelligent adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, traffic sign recognition and driver attention monitoring. The Tonale also features a Brembo sports braking system with red callipers.
Giulia and Stelvio complete the Luna Rossa family
Alfa Romeo extends this special series to the Giulia and Stelvio, with an interpretation focused more strongly on materials derived from competition. Carbon fibre is notably used for the front bumper and mirror caps, while the interior combines leather, carbon fibre and regenerated nylon fabric, produced in part from fishing nets recovered from the seabed.
This Edizione Luna Rossa continues a collaboration already embodied by the highly exclusive Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa, limited to just ten examples. Alfa Romeo is also a technology partner of the Italian team, contributing its expertise in areas such as simulation, dynamics and virtual analysis.
With this new special series now extended to the Junior, Tonale, Giulia and Stelvio, the world of Luna Rossa becomes accessible across a large part of the Alfa Romeo range, through a shared visual identity combining nautical references, technology and Italian sportiness.
