New Audi A2 e-tron: electric efficiency enters a new dimension
Audi opens a new chapter in its electric range with the upcoming A2 e-tron. Heir to a model that became iconic for its technological advances in the early 2000s, this new 100% electric compact car places efficiency at the heart of its development. With an announced consumption of just 12.8 kWh/100 km (WLTP cycle, provisional figure), it becomes the most efficient model ever designed by Audi. More than just an electric car, the A2 e-tron illustrates the brand’s ambition to offer smarter mobility, capable of combining range, performance and cutting-edge technologies.
A new benchmark for electric efficiency
The Audi A2 e-tron does not owe its performance to a single innovation, but to the combination of numerous optimisations developed by the brand’s engineers.
Its particularly refined aerodynamics enable it to achieve a drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.24, the best ever achieved by an Audi compact car. Its streamlined front end, flowing roofline, air curtains, airflow management systems around the wheels and active air intake significantly reduce air resistance. At high speeds, these solutions reduce consumption by up to 0.9 kWh/100 km according to the WLTP cycle.
Under the bodywork, Audi is also introducing a new generation of electric powertrain. The permanently excited synchronous motor benefits from power electronics using silicon carbide semiconductors, which are more efficient than conventional components. Combined with a new low-friction transmission and an optimised motor, these developments improve overall efficiency by almost 10%, particularly under the most common driving conditions: urban traffic, daily journeys or long-distance travel.
A battery designed for the needs of tomorrow
The new A2 e-tron also introduces a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, renowned for its durability, safety and ability to be regularly charged to 100% without compromising its longevity. Available from launch with several capacities — 52, 62 and 84 kWh —, it will meet the needs of both urban use and long-distance travellers.
Audi has also optimised the vehicle’s entire energy management system. Thanks to a specific cooling strategy and particularly efficient charging electronics, charging efficiency reaches 89.6% on a home charging station (wallbox), limiting energy losses and improving overall efficiency.
Finally, the new electric compact car stands out with its bidirectional charging capabilities. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) technologies make it possible to power electrical devices or return the energy stored in the battery to a compatible home. The A2 e-tron thus becomes a genuine part of the domestic energy ecosystem.
Scheduled for autumn 2026, the new Audi A2 e-tron will expand the brand’s electric range with a unique proposition in the premium compact segment. By embracing the spirit of innovation that made the original A2 a success while integrating Audi’s latest technological advances, it is already shaping up to be one of the most promising models of the new generation of electric vehicles.
